Microsoft SharePoint is used by companies to create websites. SharePoint is a secure place to store, organize, share, and access information from any user device.
- Sharepoint is designed for organizations of all sizes.
- The cloud-based service is hosted by Microsoft and can be accessed through their Microsoft 365 subscription.
- Companies can also choose to install an on-site server for SharePoint.
- Employees can create sites to collaborate with colleagues and customers.
Share Point Structure Explained
- SharePoint is continually being updated with new features and capabilities, such as modern site pages, modern web parts and authoring, modern lists and libraries, modern search, integration with PowerApps, Power BI and MS Flow, and SharePoint home page.
- The latest new feature update creates a SharePoint team site in conjunction with the creation of a new team in Microsoft Teams. Users will also be able to link an existing SharePoint team site to a new team in Microsoft Teams. This primary Teams connected team site is also known as the parent team connected site.
- When you create a private channel in Microsoft Teams, a separate team site in SharePoint also gets automatically created. These sites are called Teams connected channel sites, or just channel sites.
The latest updates affect the viewing and administrative experience of connected team sites and channel sites in the following ways:
- Previously, site classification (sensitivity) and advanced site permissions could only be managed in the Settings pane. With the new features, sensitivity labels and information barriers (site classification) will be read-only in SharePoint. Site permissions will not be allowed to be edited in the SharePoint Settings page, but rather will be managed in Microsoft Teams settings.
- There is an exception for a parent site. A prent site is defined as a group connected team site that hosts standard channels, and connects to private channels. The Parent site still permits site editing for permissions from the SharePoint platform.
- Visual updates to the SharePoint team site header have been changed in several ways. The Microsoft Teams icon and Go to Channel button in the document library command bar are designed to assist users in identifying the type of site and channel; as well as to more easily navigate to the connected team or private channel.
- The new updates also removed the “Go to Channel” banner in document libraries. The link was updated to be available in the command bar regardless of which library being viewed.
- This update improves and simplifies the template used for the channel sites by setting the traditional features off-by-default and will utilize the full capabilities of the modern team site.
